The stories in this book shed an extra light on Hemingway s first novel, The sun also rises, his relation to his contemporaries and his character In the history of literature many stories about people which stem from these stories are circulating Heminway gives us his own perspective It has been an interesting period, and the one reads about it, the things fit in, as it were.

My book group read this book, after reading the novel, The Paris Wife. This is Ernest s version of what happened in his first marriage and his life in Paris in the 1920s There are lovely descriptions of cafe life, his toddler son, skiing in Shruns, running the bulls in Pamplona, and trips to the south of France with other Americans living in Europe.
